Ronnie Chen started dancing in 2006, with his alma mater dance team “New Revolving Age” a.k.a NRA with his mentor Ann Tan.
He has been trained in the fundamentals in various street styles that created a base of which he used to develop his own interpretation of dance.
In his early dance career, he has won and placed in numerous dance competitions as such Singapore Dance Delight, Suntec Dance, World Supremacy Battlegrounds (Melbourne) and also Japan Dance delight. Winning some of the local competitions allow him to have the prestigious opportunity to represent Singapore in various countries.
In 2011, he decided to go to USA for a 3 month intensive training. Where he got selected by Shaun Evaristo to perform for “Bodyrock 2011” with team Movement Lifestyle. He was also approached to conduct workshops in Boogiezone and performed with Amanda Grind. In his later trips to USA, he would also teach in Movement Lifestyle, The Company Workshops, GOOD Friday Workshops, Snowglobe Perspective and perform with choreographer Tony Tzar.
His local and international career started in Oct 2011. Till date, He has taught in several countries such as USA, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia. Locally he was taught in various studios such as O school as a Full time Instructor and Legacy Dance Co., Recognize! Studios, Danzpeople in the capacity of a a pop-up instructor. He has also judged several local and overseas dance competitions such as Top of Dance (China), Dance for high (Hong Kong), Super 24 Regionals (Philippines) and World Supremacy Battlegrounds (Singapore).
He has also worked with both local and overseas music artistes to create choreography. Most notably is Kpop group TXT for their single “Blue Hour”. Which garnered over 94 million views till date. Locally, he also worked with artistes like Cold Cut Duo & Shigga Shay.
He now takes on a role of Director and Dancer for his new crew “SGD”, formed in 2019. Which has been participating in competitions like Arena (singapore) 2019 and World Supremacy Battlegrounds 2019. The team looks forward to pushing the envelop of what a dance crew can be in Singapore.
As a Coach, he is currently coaching 2 teams. Boogiecrew and EZHB Crew. Both are youth dance teams that consist of dancers aged 13-16. Growing budding talent is something that he is highly invested and proud of and one of his ways he can contribute back into the dance scene in Singapore.
Ronnie is one of the few lucky enough to have a career that allows him to experience the world through dancing. As he progresses, his goal is to further refine his dancing. To eventually create something that is unique and honest to him so he can bring something new to the dance world and hopefully inspire many others to do the same.
